Sample Design Grid

Now Available to Download!

The Design Grids are used throughout The Unofficial LEGO® Builder's Guide to help plan original models. They are a specialized type of graph paper that has been scaled to match LEGO elements. In addition, Appendix B consists of a complete overview of the grids and provides some tips on how best to use them.

Download the grids individually, or as a complete package:

  • Design Grid #1 [Studs Up / Top Down Orientation] 40kb
  • Design Grid #2 [32x32 Mosaic Pattern Maker] 121kb
  • Design Grid #3 [Plate View - Portrait Orientation] 41kb
  • Design Grid #4 [Plate View - Landscape Orientation] 39kb
  • Complete Package [contains all grids] 175kb

Please note: The final PDF files for the Design Grids were prepared after the book had gone to press. There are a few minor differences between the files linked above and the images/references to the grids that are found in the book. However, these differences are entirely cosmetic and will not affect the usability of the downloadable grids nor the information about them that you can read in the The Unofficial LEGO® Builder's Guide.

Want a different way to work with the Design Grids? Try John Noordijk's Excel version of the grids. This 'all-in-one' file contains a Baseplate Top View, Front View, Left View, Rear View and Right View.
